George Beck Coghlan, 82, passed away on Tue. June 20, 2023, at Merit Health Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. Visitation will be held on Sat. July 1, 2023 from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Graveside Services are 11 a.m. on Sat. July 1, 2023 at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.
Mr. Coghlan was born on April 13, 1941, in Brookhaven, MS to the late J.L. Coghlan and Eunice Beck Coghlan. He was tough, quiet, quick-witted, and sarcastic. If he loved you, he loved you hard. If you didn’t have a father in your life and you were in need of a father figure, he’d do his best to be it.
Mr. Coghlan was a man that needed to know how things worked. If he didn’t know how it worked, he would take it apart, study it and tinker with it until he did. He left school not long after his mother’s untimely death, but he never stopped learning. Mr. Coghlan and his wife built a business from the ground up and worked it 365 days a year. He vowed that none of his children will be a chicken in the sun. He taught them to work on things, figure things out, push through the hard stuff and to persevere. He was an awesome example of dedication and work ethic. Mr. Coghlan had a quiet relationship with his Creator and was prepared to meet Him. Mr. Coghlan loved his family and always took care of them. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Coghlan is survived by his wife of 62 years, or as he would say “His Girl” that he loved for 67 years, Peggy Coghlan; three children, Amy Baskin (Brian), Sam Coghlan (Beth) and June Stevens (Ben); sister, Peggy King; five grandchildren, Taryn Kratzschmar (Bobby), Seth Coghlan, Kathryn Coghlan, Julia Welch (Jeramiah) Sophie Baskin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Coghlan is also preceded in death by his 8 brothers and sisters, J.L. Coghlan Jr., Lois Boyd, Faye Scandrett, Charles Coghlan, Bobby Coghlan, Janet McNutt, Carl Coghlan and Tom Coghlan.
The family would like everyone to know how much they appreciate the calls, texts messages and the offers of help that have been given during this time. Thank you and God bless you all.
