Thirty-seven senior Bobcats walked in caps and gowns Friday night at Bogue Chitto Attendance Center.
Principal Scott Merrell expressed a “heartfelt congratulations to the class of 2023.”
“Many won awards, and approximately $235,000 in scholarships… I consider that very impressive,” Merrell said.
The principal challenged them by saying, “You are no longer children. You are men and women … it is my hope and desire that each of you will become what you hope to be … and commit yourself to helping your community (as they have helped you).”
Salutatorian Harleigh Porter said it was hard work and sacrifice that embodies the attitude of her class.
“We have the opportunity to make a change, and a change, no matter how small, can be considered a success,” Porter said. “Our successes and failures make us what we are.”
Valedictorian Aynslee Butler emphasized the importance of staying true to yourself.
“Success is also about making a positive impact on the world around you,” she said.
After the graduates moved their tassels and tossed their mortarboards, they sang “Happy Birthday” to Merrell.
