Weather outlook shows severe storm risk Friday

BROOKHAVEN — NWS Jackson is still warning Mississippians of possible severe weather Friday. At this time, Brookhaven has a 20 percent chance of rain on Friday.
While the greatest threat of severe weather is north of the I-20 corridor, this event is still a few days away and is subject to change. NWS Jackson warns this severe weather is expected to hit Friday and Friday night.
Friday night is forecast to have the greatest chance of rain with 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Wind gusts could hit speeds as high as 25 mph Friday night. NWS Jackson advises citizens to review their safety plan in the case there is bad weather Friday.
The public can be prepared for bad weather by being familiar with surrounding city names and knowing which county you are in. NWS Jackson says people should have multiple ways of receiving warnings and know where you will take shelter if needed.
Meanwhile, Wednesday is forecast to be cloudy through mid morning and eventually clearing. The high will be near 68 with an east north east win at 5 to 10 mph. Gusts could reach as high as 20 mph. Wednesday night will be mostly clear with a low around 45 and an eastern wind at 5 mph.
Sunrise is at 6:54 a.m. and sunset is at 7:19 p.m. Wednesday.
Brookhaven has received .64 inches of precipitation in the past 24 hours. March has seen 4.85 inches of rain and there have been 16.19 inches of rain since Jan. 1, 2023. The year to date total is nearly three inches higher than the average of 13.66 inches of rainfall.
