With 352 entries, the Fielder’s Pro Shop Goin’ to Town Car Show Saturday was the largest car show ever in Brookhaven.
“We had a bumper crowd,” said organizer and announcer T-Tommy Smith. “From where I was set up I could see down every direction, and it was packed with people. It’s the biggest turnout we’ve ever had, with spectators and participants.”
The show began in the spring of 1983 and has continued most years since.
With few clouds in the sky and a breeze blowing, Lincoln County residents and visitors from as far away as Texas walked around with smiles on their faces as they looked at the hundreds of classic cars and trucks, a few mopeds, and a couple of vehicular oddities.
Buddy Hillard won the Mayor’s Choice Award with his entry of a 1960 Chevrolet Corvette. A 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air — entered by Roy Allen of Tomball, Texas — won the Holiday Inn Choice Award.
Best of Show went to William Barbuto of Madison, for his 1955 Chevrolet Nomad.
