Harold Burt

Mr. Harold Elwin Burt, 84, of Jayess, Mississippi passed away on January 27, 2023 at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. Harold was born October 21, 1938 in McComb, Mississippi to Elwin and Irma Melrose Burt.
A visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, January 30 from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral at 2:00 PM; the funeral service will be held in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services following in the Tilton United Methodist Church Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Born and raised in McComb, MS. Harold graduated from McComb High School in 1959, attended SW Jr. College and Ole Miss. Harold worked with the family business, “Burt Butane & Plumbing,” from childhood until he began working for Shell Oil. Harold loved the game of golf and when he offered the chance to be assistant golf pro to Sonny Guy at the municipal course in Jackson. Harold passed the PGA test and went on to be the Head Pro and Grounds Superintendent at Sonny Guy until his retirement in 2008. Harold was a lifetime member of PGA of America and honorary lifetime member of the Mississippi Turf Grass Association. Harold then worked at Brookhaven Country Club and Fernwood Country Club for the next few years until he decided to help with Joan’s Catering Business. In 2019, both Harold and Joan retired and went home. Harold and Joan had blended families and he loved all of the children. He had a good life and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joan Burt of Jayess; his children, Joy Lynn Spencer (Marvin) of Brandon, Rhonda Vargas (Marty) of Biloxi, Lisa Jean Bennett (Robert) of Texas, Taylor Burt (Alexis) of Bogue Chitto, and Hayden Burt (Taylor) of Biloxi; grandchildren, Guy Burt Spencer (Amanda), Joni Taylor (William), Morgann Davis, Sarah Bennett, Brittany Dimitri (Scott), and Bethany Toth; and great-grandchildren, Colson, Maddox, Aubreigh, Liam, Elizabeth, and Ella Rose.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Shirley Taylor, Sissy Burt, and Priscilla Etheridge.
