BA to expand with building project

Brookhaven Academy has announced a new building project.
Beginning with a ground-breaking event in January, the new construction is expected to be completed by August.
The new building will serve as a functional and aesthetic main entry, located between the elementary and high school buildings, and give a covered entry to the gym complex. It will house a central office — including head of school, business office, admissions and counselor offices — and 10 classrooms.
“Completion of the new facility will not only provide more classroom space, but also help maintain a student-teacher ratio of 18:1 in K-5 through eighth grade,” said BA Director of Development Shannon Miller.
The new classrooms will provide space for such needs as tutoring, speech and dyslexia therapy and student testing, as well as rainy day activities and an alternative to outside recess.
A water management system is included in the project, as well as resurfacing of the front parking lot. Total anticipated cost for the project has yet to be determined, Miller said.
“This will be accommodating to our future growth needs, and will give BA a secured front campus design,” Miller said.
