BROOKHAVEN — Destin Allen cut a red ribbon to celebrate the start of his Allen Construction and Roofing company outside the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Wednesday morning. Allen started the company last February to spend more time with his kids.
He has 12 years of construction experience as the owner of Allen Construction and Roofing. A native of Brookhaven, he worked at a refinery for a few years before starting his own company.
It will allow him to spend more time at home with his kids. He said everything has gone smoothly.
“The company has been blessed. We have stayed steady and are blessed so far. God has blessed us,” Allen said. “Construction is where I started, and I have always loved it. You learn something new every day. There is always something to learn, and each day is different.”
One of his goals is to become one of the top contractors in the area. He said it is obtainable.
The company serves Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama. Services include rigid-frame buildings and metal roofing with specialties in roofing and outbuildings. He also provides a free estimate to customers.
He enjoys building a relationship with customers. Former customers have become friends and would call him about things and ask for advice, he said.
“Through hope and prayer it has all come together quicker than I expected,” Allen said. “We are blessed for every customer we have. I have made friends through this. Cutting the ribbon and celebrating the business is icing on the cake.”
