Chief Kenneth Collins said the Brookhaven Police Department is still working to solve the homicide of Jerrivonte “Spud” Harris.
“We’ve been working non-stop to solve it,” Collins said. “We’ve been faced with silence and lies.”
The crime will not be solved unless someone is willing to say what they know, he said.
“We’re asking some brave person that saw it to come forward and make a statement, so we can get the individual or individuals off the streets. Stop sitting back, blaming law enforcement when no one is willing to step up to help us, to allow us to arrest and charge these murderers.”
The chief said he would also be back on the department’s ATV following up on encampments that were previously cleared out. Doing so will help prevent further incidents like the June carjacking of Lisa Wilson in the Walmart parking lot.
“We shouldn’t be bothered by individuals running up on us while were shopping,” Collins said. “Our prayers go out to the family of Jerrivonte Harris, and to Ms. Wilson for a speedy recovery.”
