An investigation into a recent shooting in Brookhaven continues behind the scenes, according to Police Chief Kenneth Collins.
On Feb. 1, two men were arrested and charged in a Jan. 24 incident in Brookhaven. Gregory and Brandon Case were booked into the Lincoln County Jail after reportedly pursuing a FedEx driver in his vehicle, shooting into the vehicle as they chased him to I-55.
Delivery driver Demonterrio Gibson had delivered a package on Junior Trail when Gregory Case attempted to block in his vehicle on the roadway with his own pickup, and Brandon Case fired shots from a handgun into the delivery truck as Gibson drove past the man, who was standing in the roadway.
Gregory Case, 58, was charged with conspiracy; Brandon Case, 35, was charged with aggravated assault/shooting into a motor vehicle. Both men bonded out the same day they were booked into the Lincoln County Jail, on $75,000 and $150,000 bonds, respectively.
“We have made two arrests, and I will make no further comments about this case,” Chief Collins said Friday. “It is going to go before the grand jury and we’ll let the court systems handle it. If any new evidence materializes, we will submit that, too.”
“I want all the city’s citizens to know that we have people trying to judge our city but they don’t know anything about Brookhaven, and they don’t know anything about Chief Collins,” the police chief said. “We need to remember who we are — we are God-made and we are heaven-sent. As long as we have faith in God we will never be broken and never be bent.”
