Severe storms are expected this afternoon, with possible damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, the Jackson Weather Forecast Office reported at about 5 a.m. today.

The main areas threatened by storm activities include just above and below Lincoln County, beginning at noon near the Mississippi River and continuing into our area into the evening.

Brookhaven can expect the possibility of quarter-sized hail and tornado warnings. Take extra care in the Highway 84 corridor.

The Mississippi Weather Network warns of possible flash flooding in low-lying areas as a cold front moves in, with temperatures in the lower 70s in the coming days, and the high 40s for the overnight hours.
