Panthers cruise to 1st at XC Meet

The Brookhaven High School boys’ cross-country team had another dominate performance Saturday at the Jaguar Trails Classic hosted by Madison Central at Madison Middle School.
Seniors Sam Arnold, Grayson Childress and Jake Thompson finished first, second and third respectively, as the team scored 24 points, far ahead of Pearl High in second with 75 points.
BHS was tops out of the 19 teams competing as Arnold finished the 5K course in 16 minutes and seven seconds.
Senior Trey Knott finished seventh overall for BHS while fellow senior Collin Kellum was the 11th-place finisher.
Sophomore Wyatt Scott (19:18) and freshman Bram Wolfe (19:56) finished in 41st and 48th place respectively for Ole Brook coach Shannon Knott.
Sophomore Preston Selman was the top finisher for Wesson with a time of 20:39.
There were 194 runners in the varsity boys’ race.
The BHS girls’ team finished fifth overall in a field of 14 teams.
Freshman Annabelle Summers (22:09) was the top BHS finisher in 11th place, one spot ahead of her senior teammate Ellie Slay (22:10).
Ella Thompson, also a freshman for BHS, finished in 14th place with a time of 22:18. Other competitors for Ole Brook were senior Merritt Wolfe (23:47), freshman Rainey Scott (24:35) and senior Amy Mabile (24:50).
Eighth-grader Macy Loy (24:34) was the top finisher for Wesson in the race.
Seventh grader Cooper Wallace was second overall in the 3,200-meter junior high race for Brookhaven. Wallace finished in a time of 12:11. His teammate Coleman Knott (12:59) finished in 10th place.
Seventh-grader Isabella Iles (14:04) finished fifth overall in the junior high girls race for BHS.
