COVID-19 update: 6 new deaths, 131 new cases

Six new deaths and 131 new positive cases of coronavirus have been reported by the Mississippi State Department of Health.
The state now has recorded 317,407 positive cases since the onset of the pandemic and 7,310 related fatalities. Of the newly reported deaths, one each was reported for Hinds and Walthall counties May 26-27. Four others were identified from death certificate reports Nov. 10, 2020, to May 23.
To date, Lincoln County has reported 3,992 cases and 111 deaths.
Neighboring counties have reported:
- Amite — 1,247 cases, 42 deaths
- Copiah — 2,988 cases, 81 deaths
- Franklin — 846 cases, 23 deaths
- Jefferson — 661 cases, 28 deaths
- Lawrence — 1,306 cases, 24 deaths
- Pike — 3,352 cases, 107 deaths
- Walthall — 1,349 cases, 46 cases
Ten counties have reported 30 or fewer coronavirus-related deaths — Carroll (30), Claiborne (30), Jefferson (28), Kemper (28), Tunica (26), Lawrence (24), Franklin (23), Sharkey (17), Quitman (16) and Issaquena (6).
Issaquena County is also the county with the fewest reported cases — 169 — and the only county to report fewer than 500.
The state’s largest counties by population are De Soto and Hinds. De Soto County has reported 22,098 positive cases and 261 deaths. Hinds County has reported 20,479 cases and 418 deaths.
As of Thursday, the most recently reported data, 160 patients were hospitalized statewide with positive cases of coronavirus and 26 additional patients had suspected infections. Fifty-two patients were in intensive care units and 22 were on ventilators.
The state presumes 306,872 individuals have recovered from COVID-19 infections, as of May 24.
