A bid of $270,315.34 was approved Monday by the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors for a bridge replacement project on Chestnut Lane SW.

“It’s a complete new bridge to replace an obsolete structure,” said County Engineer Ryan Holmes.

The engineer’s estimate for the Local System Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program — a Mississippi Department of Transportation program that provides money to help counties pay for bridge repairs and drainage work — was $340,309.

The winning bid, submitted by Oddee Smith Construction Inc. in Brookhaven, came in nearly $70,000 and 20% below the estimate.

A total of eight sealed bids were submitted prior to Monday’s 10 a.m. bid opening, ranging from the low bid up to more than $475,000.

With little discussion, the board accepted the recommendation of Holmes to accept the low bid from Oddee Smith.
