Have you ever wondered what difference wearing a seatbelt can make? The Mississippi Highway Patrol’s rollover simulator can help answer that question.
For a few hours this morning, the simulation machine will be outside the MHP Troop M office and Driver License station on Hwy. 84 East in Brookhaven.
“We’re hoping a demonstration like this will make an impact and have a positive effect on people of all ages,” said Troop M Public Affairs Officer Cpl. Craig James.
Wearing a seatbelt may not completely prevent injuries, James said, but it could mean the difference between life and death.
The simulation demonstration is part of MHP’s 2021 DRIVE emphasis — Driving Requires Initiative, Values and Education, said TFC Cal Robertson, the Biloxi-based Trooper who brought the simulator to Brookhaven.
Seventy teenagers were killed in traffic crashes in Mississippi in 2020, compared to 49 in 2019. The goal of the DRIVE campaign is to lower that number significantly for 2021.
