Area schools cancel, alter schedules in view of winter weather advisory

Brookhaven Academy, Brookhaven public schools and Lincoln County schools have canceled school for Monday, and Lawrence County School District has announced a virtual instruction day, due to the threat of inclement weather.
Wesson Attendance Center has announced it will not open Monday.
Copiah-Lincoln Community College has also announced all of its campuses will be closed.
Sunday evening, the National Weather Service issued an urgent winter weather advisory for areas that include Lincoln, Lawrence and Franklin counties, in effect until noon Monday.
Accumulations of up to two inches of sleet and/or snow are possible, according to NWS.
Commuters are urged to use caution on all roadways, especially bridges.
The Lawrence County School District published the following:
“Due to inclement winter weather conditions, all Lawrence County School District students and teachers will have a day of Virtual Learning on Monday, January 11, 2021. All other district employees are instructed to remain at home for safety. All school campuses and offices will be closed, and there will be no Grab and Go meals or meal delivery. Plans are to resume regular school schedules on Tuesday, January 12.”
