COVID update: Cases still over 1,000 across state

After another high case count report on Thursday — 1,746 new cases and 18 new deaths — Mississippi’s COVID numbers dropped to low four-digits Friday morning with 1,005 new cases reported and six new deaths.

Lincoln County now has 1,887 reported cases — 26 newly-recorded — and the reported deaths remain at 65.

There have been 166 total cases in long-term care facilities and 36 total deaths. The Mississippi State Department of Health reports 193 current LTC outbreaks statewide.

The most recent MSDH reports show 942 patients with confirmed infections in hospitals in the state as of Tuesday, 265 in intensive care units and 118 on ventilators. Ninety-seven people have also been hospitalized with suspected coronavirus infections.

The state has reported 145,636 total cases and 3,745 deaths. MSDH presumes 121,637 people have recovered from infections in the state.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recorded more than 12.5 million cases of COVID-19 and more than 260,000 deaths since Jan. 21.
