Here is a brief roundup of how area teams fared Friday night.
Brookhaven High 41, Natchez High 38
It wasn’t over until the final 30 seconds, but Brookhaven High (2-2) was able to escape Natchez with a much-needed win Friday.
The Panthers jumped ahead early, leading 20-8 after the first quarter. Natchez went to the air though to cut into the BHS lead.
With under a minute left Natchez created a turnover to get the ball back, but on their first play after the takeaway it was BHS junior defensive back Javonta Stewart who snagged an interception to seal the victory.
Next week Brookhaven closes out their regular season by hosting West Jones. A win over the Mustangs would have Ole Brook hosting a first-round playoff game the following week.
Wesson 38, Enterprise 8
Wesson (6-2) capped a second straight perfect record in Region 7-2A with the win over the Yellow Jackets.
Next week the Cobras are back at home as they host Bay Springs (2-5) for an opening round playoff game.
Enterprise (2-6) also qualifies for the postseason for the first time in a long time. Coach Trey Woodard and his team will travel to face defending 2A state champion Taylorsville on Friday.
West Lincoln 20,
Amite County 18
Coach Brad Bland and his Bears got their first ever win in Liberty Friday as they held off Amite County in a battle.
West Lincoln (5-4) finishes as the no. 3 seed in Region 7-2A and is on the road next week to face the Enterprise-Clarke Bulldogs (7-1).
