2020 Junior Ambassadors promote Chamber, part 2 of 2

The 2021 Junior Ambassadors will soon begin their duties as the Christmas season is kicked off by the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. Serving as ambassadors to the business community, each Junior Ambassador must be a ninth-grade student and reside in Lincoln County.

Twenty-seven businesses across Brookhaven and Lincoln County will be open Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. to start the season with new merchandise, holiday displays and decorated storefronts. This year’s theme is “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”

Laren Claudia Day, daughter of Ryan and Brandi Day, is a freshman at Brookhaven High School. She is a Mississippi Scholar, on the A & B Honor Roll, and a member of the Lady Panthers softball team. She also enjoys hunting and fishing Her favorite thing about Brookhaven is that it’s a sportsman’s paradise and the small town atmosphere. She will be at Panache Salon and Boutique during Open House.

Taylor Michele Jackson, daughter of Randy and Brandi Jackson, is a freshman at Bogue Chitto Attendance Center. She is a member of the Bogue Chitto Student Council and Sr. Beta Club, an honor roll student and has received the highest GPA honor in her class several times. Taylor is a varsity cheerleader and plays on the Bogue Chitto fast pitch softball team. She is a member of First Baptist Church Summit and is active in their youth group. She loves Brookhaven and Lincoln County because she can be close to all her family and enjoys being a part of a close-knit community. Taylor will be greeting guests at Melinda’s Fabrics and Interiors during Christmas Open House.

Leslie Ann James, daughter of Suzanne James, is a freshman at Loyd Star Attendance Center. She is an honor roll student and has been selected as Loyd Star’s Student of the Month. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has enjoyed playing Jr. High basketball for the Lady Hornets. She attends Friendship Baptist Church and is active in their youth group. Leslie Ann loves her hometown of Brookhaven because the people are nice to one another and they support each other. She will be greeting guests at Mint Consignment during Christmas Open House.

Carmen Elise Lambert, daughter of John and Angie Lambert, is a freshman at Brookhaven Academy. She was selected as Vice President of the Junior National Honor Society in eighth grade, Eighth Grade Class Vice President, and is currently serving as president of her ninth grade Junior National Honor Society. Other academic honors include Jr. Mississippi Scholar, Honor Roll, Eighth Grade Highest Average in reading, grammar, computer, world geography and MS Studies. Carmen was also chosen as Student of the Month during her 7th and 8th Grade years. She is a Jr. High Cougar Cheerleader and was recently selected as head cheerleader. She is a member of the two-time district champion Lady Cougar Jr. High basketball team. Carmen attends Church of the Way and is a member of the Rainin’3 Hoop School Basketball League. She says she has had the opportunity to travel with her parents and she now understands why Brookhaven is called Homeseekers Paradise and as Dorothy would say “There’s no place like home!” Carmen will be greeting guests at Printed Cotton Company during Christmas Open House.

Mallory Nicole Martin, daughter of Brad and Amber Martin, is a freshman at Brookhaven Academy. She is a member of the Brookhaven Academy Junior High Honors Society and was elected as the 9th Grade Student Council Class Representative. Mallory received the highest average award in Pre-Algebra last year and is on the Headmaster’s All As List at BA. She is a member of the Lady Cougar varsity soccer team, plays Junior Varsity basketball for the Lady Cougars, and is co-captain of the Cougar Jr. High cheerleading squad. Mallory attends Calvary Baptist Church where she is active in the youth group. Her favorite thing about living in Brookhaven is the feeling of being home in a loving community. Mallory will be greeting guests at Sassafras Boutique during Christmas Open House.

Allie Grace McNeill, daughter of Skip and Allison Gennero and Shane and Tywana McNeill, is a freshman at Brookhaven High School. She is a member of the BHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a Diamond Girl for the BHS baseball team. Her classmates recently selected her Best All-Around Female and she is a member of the BHS Honor Roll. Allie Grace is a member of the Nena Smith School of Dance where she received the Crystal Gooch Dance Scholarship. She is a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church and is active in their youth ministry. Allie Grace says her favorite thing about Brookhaven is how kind and loving the people are. Everyone is like one big happy family and she wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Allie Grace will be greeting guests at Sassy but Sweet Boutique during Christmas Open House.

Jenny Parker Murray, daughter of Jerry Murray and Caleb and Keri Herndon, is a freshman at Brookhaven High School. Jenny is on the A&B Honor Roll at BHS and also received the Citizenship Award for her class. She plays on the Brookhaven High School tennis team. Along with tennis, her hobbies are swimming, roller skating, walking her dogs and babysitting. She also enjoys traveling and learning the history and culture of other areas. Jenny attends Central Baptist Church. Her favorite thing about Brookhaven is the great places to shop and eat. She also is proud of how awesome the Brookhaven Police Force is that makes her feel safe in this community. Jenny will be greeting guests at Southern Style during Christmas Open House.

Sadie Anne O’Quinn , daughter of Michelle Douglas, is a freshman at Enterprise Attendance Center. She is a member of the Enterprise Beta Club and Future Business Leaders of America. Sadie excels in her education and is on the honor roll. She plays for the Yellow Jacket tennis team and is a member of the Enterprise Varsity Cheer Squad. Sadie is an active member of the Fair River Youth group. Her favorite thing about living in Brookhaven are the people. Sadie will be greeting guests at The Party Place during Christmas Open House.

Vivi Claire Porter, daughter of Chris and Stephanie Porter, is a freshman at Brookhaven High School. Vivi Claire is a member of the BHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was selected as a Mississippi Scholar and was a member of the 2017 and 2018 Mississippi State Honor Choir. She recently was a featured soloist at the highly anticipated BHS Homecoming Production. Her athletic involvement includes playing for the BHS Lady Panthers slow and fast pitch softball teams. Vivi Claire is an active member of First Baptist Church, FBC’s youth group and the praise band. To her, Brookhaven means Friday Night Lights, Girls Night Out, Janie’s Bakery, Christmas Open House and home to the best local small businesses. Brookhaven is truly a Homeseekers Paradise. Vivi Claire will be greeting guests at The Well-Dressed Man during Christmas Open House.

Preslee Fayth Rushing, daughter of Steve and Cassandra Rushing, is a freshman at West Lincoln Attendance Center. She is a member of the fellowship of Christian athletes and Senior Beta Club. Preslee excels in academics and is on the All-A Honor Roll. Preslee plays varsity basketball, softball, and is a varsity cheerleader for the bears. Preslee is an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She said her favorite thing about living in Brookhaven is the small town feel and that everyone cares for one another, which is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. Preslee will be greeting guests this Saturday during Christmas Open House at Three Sisters Boutique.

Maggie Katherine Sheppard, daughter of Chris and Christy Sheppard, is a freshman at Brookhaven High School. Maggie was recently selected as Freshman Maid for the BHS Homecoming Court and danced in the Brookhaven High Homecoming Production. She is an honor roll student and was awarded “Most School Spirit.” Maggie is a member of the Lady Panther soccer team and plays for the Ole Brook FC travel soccer team. She attends Grace Life Church of Brookhaven where she is active in the youth group, is a five-year Bible Drill competitor, teaches children in VBS, volunteers at the nursing home and volunteers at the Center for Pregnancy Choices in the neighboring community of Monticello. Maggie says her favorite thing about Brookhaven is the people. Everyone treats you with love and just like family. Maggie will be greeting guests at Three Sisters Boutique during Christmas Open House.

Layla Cheyenne Spencer, daughter of Ricky and Erin Spencer, is a freshman at Brookhaven High School. She is a member of the BHS Junior Beta Club and Future Business Leaders of America. Layla is an honor roll student excelling in academics and has received various highest achievement awards and won the FBLA competition. She enjoys volunteering her time at the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League. Layla will be greeting guests at Vibe Clothing Company during Christmas Open House.

Riley Carol Thornton, daughter of Autumn Smith Thornton and Chris Thornton, is a freshman at Loyd Star Attendance Center. She is a member of the Loyd Star Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Riley excels in her education and is on the Loyd Star Honor Roll. She is a cheerleader for the hornets and plays on the basketball team. Riley is active in her church youth group. She says her favorite thing about Brookhaven is it being a beautiful place. She loves the outdoors, her cows and riding 4-wheelers on her family’s land. Riley will be greeting guests at Castles during Christmas Open House.

Ashlyn Taylor Thurman, daughter of Ryan and Amanda Thurman, is a freshman at Brookhaven High School. She is a member of the Junior National Honor Society and has been an All-A Honor Roll Student since first grade. She received First Place in the 2019 Mississippi Secretary of State “Promote the Vote Art Contest” Winner. She is an active member of Central Baptist Church where she is a Vacation Bible School team leader and sings in the worship choir. She also works part-time at Broma’s Deli. Her favorite thing about living in Brookhaven is the community and the downtown area. She also loves all the fun shops in town. Ashlyn will be greeting guests at Engravables during Christmas Open House.
