A potentially deadly crash was averted Thursday afternoon when the driver of a log truck ran off the road intentionally to avoid striking a stopped school bus.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M public affairs officer TFC Craig James told The Daily Leader that the driver of the truck was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 550 when he topped a hill near Ellzey Drive NW and saw a stopped school bus offloading children and another stopped vehicle behind it.
The driver took evasive action and went into a ditch to avoid striking the stopped vehicles.
No one was seriously injured in the crash, TFC James said.
Crews worked the site of the crash west of Loyd Star Attendance Center Thursday afternoon until the roadway was cleared.
