PASCAGOULA (AP) — A Mississippi man was arrested and accused of killing a Florida man after striking him with a car and fleeing the scene, authorities said.

John David Cole, 46, of Biloxi, was charged Sunday with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident causing death, news outlets reported.

Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash Sunday around 2 a.m. and found a deceased man lying in the roadway. Jackson County coroner Bruce Lynd, Jr. identified the victim as 33-year-old Douglas Couey of Jacksonville, Florida.

Troopers said a blue Hyundai Elantra hit Couey and fled the scene. Troopers found that car at Cole’s residence.
