Mechanic students earn scholarships

For the past 30 years the Mississippi Truckers Association Foundation Scholarship Program has awarded scholarships to 275 students.
For the academic year 2020-2021 three of the 32 recipients are from Brookhaven and will receive money from the 501 (c) (3) charitable corporation.
The Foundation’s goal is to promote educational projects involving the trucking industry and providing scholarships to those who have ties to the trucking industry according to a press release from the foundation.
Recipients from Brookhaven are Zackary DeLaughter who will receive a MTAF scholarship, Travis Huber who will receive the R. Gene Holmes Endowment and James Durr who will receive the Vernon G. Sawyer Endowment.
DeLaughter is an upcoming freshman at Southwest Mississippi Community College, where he is enrolled in the diesel mechanic program. He is a 2020 graduate of Enterprise Attendance Center.
Huber is an upcoming sophomore at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where he is enrolled in the diesel mechanic program. He is a 2019 graduate of Enterprise Attendance Center.
Durr is an upcoming sophomore at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where he is enrolled in the diesel mechanic program. He is a 2019 graduate of Brookhaven High School.
