JACKSON (AP) — A 5-year-old girl is dead and at least three adults injured during a shooting at an apartment complex in Mississippi’s capital city.
Jackson Police investigators said someone shot into an apartment at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Bullets hit the little girl, the adults and a vehicle parked outside, authorities said.
The child’s mother identified her as Queenyanna Davis. She said her daughter was in the apartment’s living room when a bullet came through a window and hit her in the head. The child was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Ï mourn the loss of every innocent life,” Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said in a statement. “We must develop better ways of resolving conflict than resorting to acts of violence. The permanent outcome to these temporary disagreements is beyond devastating. Please join me in praying for the family and community of precious Queenyanna Davis. I commit to fighting to ensure her life was not lost in vain.”
Police said the others injured in the shooting appeared to suffer non-life threatening wounds.
A possible suspect has been identified but is not yet in custody, police said.
