Law enforcement officers are searching for three men who robbed a financial institution at gunpoint in Lawrence County Wednesday.
The New Hebron Police Department is overseeing the investigation into a robbery at Ferguson Federal Credit Union at 500 Main Ave. just before 2:30 p.m.
Investigator Kyle Smith said three black males came into the credit union displaying weapons and demanded money. Three employees were present, but no customers, he said. No one was injured.
The men wore dark-colored long sleeve hoodies and gloves.
One man is described as 5-foot-7 and slender build. The other two men are both between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot and around 220 pounds.
The men left with an undisclosed amount of money in a maroon 2001 Jeep Cherokee. A vehicle matching that description was reported stolen in Jefferson Davis County two weeks ago, he said.
The men are considered armed and dangerous.
The FBI was also on the scene and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Police Chief George Walker Jr. and his officers, said Sheriff Ryan Everett.
New Hebron Attendance Center was placed on lockdown and Everett sent a deputy in a marked unit there to be on stand-by. When it was determined there was not a threat at the school, the lockdown was lifted.
“He made sure that everybody got on the buses and the car riders got picked up,” Everett said.
Anyone who has information about this crime is urged to call 911 or the New Hebron Police Department at 601- 694-2115.
