Grab a blanket and a thermos of hot cocoa and come to a free movie on the lawn Saturday night.
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” will be playing beginning around 6 p.m. in front of Lampton Auditorium on the Mississippi School of the Arts campus.
Popcorn and water will be provided by the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, Brookhaven Tourism Council and the Lincoln Civic Center, which are sponsoring the free event.
Though it’s still a little less than a week away, the National Weather Service is forecasting a cloudy evening with temperatures dropping from a high of 64 to a low of 47 that night.
Chamber Program Director Katie Nations said the plan is to have the movie on the lawn.
“Weather permitting, that will be outside. I’d encourage people to bring their lawn chairs and blankets,” she said.
If it rains or is too cold, they’ll move it inside the auditorium.
The third annual Christmas on the Lawn event begins at 5 p.m. and will feature Tuba Christmas and music by the MSA Choral Department. The music will be inside Lampton Auditorium, Nations said.
Other activities are planned outside on the lawn, including selfies with Santa.
The movie was chosen through a popular vote on social media.
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” was released in 2000. It was directed by Ron Howard and stars Jim Carrey in the title role. Based on Dr. Seuss’s 1957 book of the same name, it was the first Dr. Seuss book to be adapted into a full-length feature film.
