With a forecast that calls for possibly heavy rain moving into Southwest Mississippi on Friday, many area schools have moved their games up to tonight in order to miss the wet weather. The following previews are for the games that have been moved up at press time on Wednesday.

Games that are still scheduled for Friday at this time are Brookhaven High at Jim Hill and Brookhaven Academy at River Oaks (Monroe, Louisiana).

This Region 7-2A matchup was the first one to be moved as the schools made their official announcement on Tuesday.

The Bears (5-4, 2-1) will host the Bobcats (3-6, 1-2) tonight on Perry Miller Field in a game the green and white must win in order to get the No. 2 seed in the division behind Wesson.

It would be easier to list the Bogue Chitto players who have not missed time this season with injuries than those who have as the Bobcats have battled through many roadblocks.

Last week BC and coach Gareth Sartin had their best offensive performance of the season in a 35-18 win over Enterprise.

Senior quarterback Shaw King went 6-of-12 passing for 87 yards and three scores. Junior Owen Anderson rushed eight times for 81 yards while King and Reid Smith each ran for a TD apiece.

Senior wideout Zach Upkins caught one pass for a score as did sophomore Colten Bales. Junior J.T. McCaffrey hauled in a pair of passes for 39 yards and one TD.

The BC defense was led by Bales with 19 stops (four solo). Freshmen Jay May, Cameron Williams, Hunter Dixon, and Deacon Wallace all had a tackle for a loss each as did Bales. Bales and Anderson also each recovered a fumble apiece.

The Bobcat defenders will have to buckle up to stop what’s been a potent West Lincoln rushing attack this season.

West Lincoln senior running back Michael Brothern garnered Daily Leader Offensive Player of the Week honors after running for 250 yards and five scores in a 47-27 win over Loyd Star last Friday. The performance of his little brother Enrico Price wasn’t anything to sneeze at either, as the sophomore Price picked up 211 yards and one TD on just 14 carries.

The West Lincoln passing game had success against LS as QB Travis Hall went 5-of-7 for 76 yards and one score that went to junior Chris Freeman. Freeman finished with three catches for 67 yards. Justin Pratt also caught a pair of passes from Hall.

Logan Smith made a team-high nine tackles for West Lincoln in the win. Tate Smith made seven stops. Dylan Dickerson had two tackles for a loss while Hall and Grant Jackson made a sack apiece. Hall also grabbed an interception.

Kickoff on Miller Field is set for 7 p.m.

Wesson at Loyd Star

A passing game has started to develop of late for the young Loyd Star Hornets (2-7, 1-2) and they’ll need that along with strong offensive line play tonight to move the ball against a stout Wesson Cobra (5-4, 3-0) defense.

The Cobras are giving up just seven points a game in division play. Last week in a 54-0 win over Amite County they were suffocating as sophomore Collin McGowan made a team high 10 tackles (eight solo). Junior defensive back Antrelle Sims picked up Daily Leader Defensive Player of the Week honors after grabbing two interceptions, one of which he returned for a score.

Freshman quarterback Will Loy went 11-of-15 passing for 196 yards and four scores to lead the Cobras. Junior Jason Edwards rushed 10 times for 67 yards and one score on the ground.

Loyd Star quarterback Stephen Mills finished 12-of-30 passing last week against West Lincoln for 254 yards and three scores. Mills also rushed for one TD. Payne Walker, Jontorion Smith and Thomas Kelly all caught scores from Mills.

Sophomores Brantley Walker and Versie Wilson led the LS defense with eight stops apiece.

Kickoff on W.E. “Sambo” Smith Field is set for 7 p.m. tonight.

Enterprise at Amite County

Coach Trey Woodard and his Enterprise Yellow Jackets (1-8, 0-3) travel to Liberty tonight to face the Amite County Trojans (4-5, 2-1).

EAC senior running back Dylan Vaughn inches closer to a 1,000-yard season every week as he now sits at 814 yards gained and five touchdowns scored in 2019.

Vaughn carried 29 times for 150 yards and a score last week against Bogue Chitto. Junior speedster Edrick McCray also carried the ball 15 times for 88 yards and one TD. Senior Donavin White chipped in 42 yards on 11 carries.

Junior linebacker Jordan Stephens made 11 stops (seven solo) to lead the Jacket defense. Senior linebacker Brodie Harris added six stops.

The game begins at 7 p.m. tonight in Liberty.

Lawrence County at McComb

The Lawrence County Cougars (5-4, 2-1) will try to ride the momentum of a thrilling win last week into their matchup tonight at McComb (5-3, 1-2) in another big Region 6-4A matchup.

Last week LC beat North Pike 41-40 by going for the two-point conversion and getting it in the final moments of the game.

Senior running back Kylan Cooper had another monster game for coach Jesse Anderson and the Cougars as he ran 25 times for 222 yards and four scores. His backfield mate Antwan Pittman added 108 yards and one score on 17 carries.

Junior quarterback Haden Mullins was 1-of-2 passing for 39 yards and a TD that went to Jamarcus Garner. Senior linebacker Jerid Dunaway made a team-high 13 tackles for the Cougars.

The game tonight against McComb is crucial for LC as they’re tied for second place in the division with Lanier and host the Bulldogs next week in Monticello for the regular season finale.
