Panthers finish 2nd at MC XC Festival

With the postseason approaching, the Brookhaven High cross-country teams continue to post strong results in their recent meets.
Saturday at the Madison Central XC Festival both the BHS boys and girls finished second place overall at the Madison Middle School course.
Senior Jacob Britt finished in second place overall to lead BHS with a time of 16 minutes and 16 seconds. The Panthers finished second overall to Bartlett High (Tennessee) who took first place and places third through sixth.
The sophomore trio of Sam Arnold, Grayson Childress and Jake Thompson finished in places eighth, ninth and 10th respectively for Brookhaven High. Other top finishers for BHS included X’Zavion Stewart (20th) and Trey Knott (27th).
Other competitors for Ole Brook were Collin Kellum, James Gardner, John Michael Chance and Jeremiah Layton.
There were 214 individual runners and 20 schools competing in the varsity boys’ race.
The Lady Panthers finished as runners up to Pearl in the 14 team varsity girls’ race.
Senior Bailey Pounds finished sixth overall (21:10) to lead BHS. Sophomore Ellie Slay finished 10th, senior Carley Craig finished in 14th place, freshman Ramie Stovall finished in 19th and senior Emmaline Wolfe was the 20th-place finisher for Brookhaven High.
Other competitors for BHS were Lily Gray, Quinn Boerner, Maddie Brabham, Merritt Wolfe, Kylee Verucchi and Amy Mabile.
Jackson Hedgepeth finished in second place for Ole Brook in the junior high boys’ two-mile race. His teammate, Robert Massingill, was the ninth-place finisher. Other runners for BHS were Wyatt Scott, Walker Williams, Braden Bairfield, Cornelius Allen, Braden Johnson, Cade Johnson, John Sones, Bram Wolfe, Markham Williams, Mason Pigott and Asher Newman.
Annabelle Summers finished in fourth place for BHS in the junior high girls’ two-mile run. Her teammate, Raney Scott, finished in ninth place. Other runners representing BHS included Ella Thompson, Sanya Graham, Evie Bowman, Micah Walker and Maggie Sheppard.
Enterprise was another area team that competed at the meet with Isabelle Ballard and Adelia Nations representing the school in the varsity girls’ race. In the varsity boys’ race the Jackets were represented by Hib Johnson, Anthony Nations, Ben Ready and Alex Sales.
Brookhaven High will run in a JPS Invitational Meet Thursday before the regional meet that takes place Oct. 24.
