Panther tennis tops Picayune

Photo by Becky Green Brookhaven High senior Daniel Panzica and the Panthers travel to Wiggins Monday for a 4 p.m. matchup with Stone County in the second round of the 5A tennis playoffs.

The Brookhaven High tennis team won their opening round matchup against Picayune Thursday in the MHSAA 5A Team Tournament.

The boys No. 1 doubles team of Daniel Panzica and Braxton Wallis won by forfeit as did the No. 2 doubles team of Jonah Clark and Sam Allen.

In No. 1 girls doubles the Lady Panthers duo of Rivers Gray and Madeline King beat Brittany Kellar and Bailey Billiot 6-1, 6-3. No. 2 girls doubles Gracey Massengill and Lily Gray swept their Picayune counterparts 6-0, 6-0.

The mixed doubles team of Maddie Boyte and Gray Anding won 6-0, 6-1. Picayune picked up singles wins with Joseph Massengill beating James Gardner and Sara Polson defeating Victoria Sitting of BHS in a close match.

The Panthers and coach Nancy Fisher are back in action Monday when they travel to play Stone County at 4 p.m.
