Businesses were busy Tuesday doing some spring cleaning and painting. The exterior of the Fred’s Super Dollar store on Brookway Boulevard was being prepped for a fresh coat of paint. A to Z Printing was also re-painting part of the exterior of its new location on Brookway. Today is the official start of spring, at least astronomically speaking. It is the spring equinox because the length of day and night is nearly equal in most parts of the world. It is only one of two times in the year when the sun shines directly on the equator. It rises directly east and sets directly west today. After today, the sun’s path will gradually shift northward, until the June solstice when it will then shift southward. The sun will again rise directly east and set directly west in September on the fall equinox.
