The Bogue Lady Bobcats (16-7, 4-1) and Loyd Star Lady Hornets (9-11, 1-3) faced off for the third time this season on Friday night at Loyd Star. In their first meeting at the Lincoln County Tournament the Lady Hornets took home a 40-33 win. Earlier this month the Lady Bobcats got some revenge on their court with a 39-31 victory.
On Friday the Lady Bobcats solidified their spot as the second-place team in Region 7-2A with a 51-44 win over the Lady Hornets
The Lady Bobcats defensive pressure caused the Lady Hornets fits, as Bogue Chitto kept Loyd Star from setting up their offense and having clean looks at the basket throughout the game. The pressure kept the Lady Hornets from making most of their shots.
“It was an intense game,” Lady Bobcat senior Karly Leake said. “We played well together and kept our composure.”
The Lady Bobcats started off the game going on a six-point run before Aubrey Britt was able to get the first Loyd Star score.
The Lady Bobcats would end the first quarter on an eight-point run to grab a 18-5 lead at the horn. The second quarter was more of the same as Bogue Chitto led 36-15 at halftime.
“As coach (Robby) Walters told us after the game, we’re not a team with a bunch of all-star players,” Lady Bobcat DeAnna Edwards said. “Everyone working together gets the job done and we were able to keep our composure all night.”
Coming out of halftime, the Lady Hornets made the needed adjustments as they started to get back in the game, outscoring the Lady Bobcats 16-7 in the third.
The Lady Hornets continued their rally in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Bobcats 13-8, but the deficit and time were against them.
The Lady Bobcats had two players hit double digits as Leake led them with a team high 17 points. Edwards netted 15 points. Katelynn Palmer scored eight points. Tyuna Brumfield and Kamilah Clay scored four points apiece. Charlsie Wilson had two points. Cheyenne Hall finished the scoring for the Lady Bobcats with one point.
Sarah Britt led the Lady Hornets with a team high 17 points. Aubrey Britt netted eight points. Christie Patterson hit seven points. Tayler Smith scored four points.
