Funeral services for Avis J. Smith, of Brookhaven, are Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home with burial at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven. Pastor Garland Boyd will officiate the services.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at Diversicare Nursing Home in Brookhaven with her loving family by her side. She was born March 18, 1930, in Brookhaven, to James Oscar Britt and Elsie Mae Walker Britt. She worked at Stahl Urban Manufacturing Co. for 27 years and Copiah-Lincoln Community College for 14 years. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Sidney Smith; sister, Ann Kyle; and brothers, Monva Lee (Eute) Britt and James Olian Britt.

Survivors are her daughter, Diane Smith Burns and husband, Charles; grandchild, Ben Burns; great-grandchild, Nickolas Burns; and a host of church family, nieces and nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Avis J. Smith’s name may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church.
