Local authorities are investigating the death of a McComb woman whose body was found in the backyard of a business just inside Lincoln County.
Lincoln County Deputy Coroner John Riggs said a cause of death has yet to be determined for 35-year-old Samantha Berryhill, whose body was discovered Thursday afternoon behind Al’s Garage and Fireworks at the corner of Hwy. 51 and Pike County Line Road at the southern edge of Lincoln County. Riggs said an autopsy was performed Monday at the state crime lab, but results are not yet compiled.
“The sheriff’s office is investigating some other leads, but there’s no foul play suspected,” he said. “We are treating it as a death investigation since she didn’t die at a hospital with a doctor present.”
Lincoln County Chief Deputy Johnny Hall said the garage owner walked onto his business’ back lot to inspect a parked vehicle when he found Berryhill’s body on the ground. The owner ran to a phone and called 911.
Hall said Berryhill’s body bore no marks or bruises to indicate a struggle.
Hall said a cause of death is not yet known for Berryhill.
“We’re waiting on the crime lab to confirm,” Hall said.
