Centreville Academy put up two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead on Brookhaven Academy in game two of the South State series, and they never looked back.
The Tigers beat the Cougars 9-2 in the second game of the series and forced a game three that started late on Thursday night.
The Cougars got back into the contest after falling down 7-0 early by scoring two runs late, but they weren’t able to overcome the large deficit.
Dawson Flowers got the start on the mound for the Cougars, and ace pitcher Tanner Watts is available to throw in game three of the series after throwing less than 70 pitches in the five-inning, 19-0 win on Tuesday night.
If the Cougars were to win the third game, they would advance to the state championship series where they’d take on the winner of the Manchester Academy and Tri-County Academy series that would start next Tuesday.
If Manchester were to win, and the Cougars were to advance, Brookhaven Academy would have home-field advantage and would host game two and possibly game three next Thursday. If Tri-County were to win, the Cougars would host game one and travel for games two and possibly three, if they were able to knock off Centreville in game three.
