Enterprise’s season came to an end Friday night, as the Yellow Jackets ended a strong year by dropping game two 10-6 to the Perry Central Bulldogs.
Both teams settled in for what was a pitcher’s duel between Yellow Jacket’s pitcher Austin Fugler and Bulldog’s pitcher Kevin Lindsey throughout the first three innings.
Although both teams had success with getting runners on bases early in the game, timely strikeouts kept the contest scoreless heading into the fourth inning. That’s when Perry Central would find the scoreboard, throwing up the first two runs of what would become a 10-run affair.
Brantley Pipkins got the Bulldogs started in the top frame of the fourth inning, leading off with a line-drive single to Enterprise shortstop Landon Gartman. With one out, Noah Hillman made his way to first base after being hit by a pitch.
Perry Central scored the game’s first two runs on a two-run RBI double by Derrick Hartfield. The Yellow Jackets ended the inning with a strikeout.
The Bulldogs took command of the game in their half of the fifth inning, bringing six runs across the plate. Zac Clark led off with a line-drive single to Enterprise’s right fielder Wyatt Burns. A. J. Sparks followed, reaching first on an error.
Logan Hartfield worked the count and drew a walk, loading up the bases for Perry Central. With one out, Lindsey belted a bases-clearing double to center field. Hillman scored Lindsey on a sacrifice fly. Derrick Hartfield followed with a two-run inside-the-park home run. Enterprise got out of the inning, getting Coleman Backstrom to ground out to second baseman Dustin Prather.
The Yellow Jackets rallied in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring six runs. Hunter Richardson led off with a single to the Bulldogs’ third base. Gartman followed with a single. Colby Beard was able to reach first base on an error, loading up the bases for Enterprise.
Feltus drew a walk, bringing in the Yellow Jackets’ first run of the game. Enterprise scored their second run when Dylan Carter reached first base on an error. With one out, John Burns scored on his ground-ball single to second base.
Feltus and Carter both scored on an error. Wyatt Burns scored the Yellow Jackets’ final run of the game when he was able to reach safely on an error.
The Bulldogs secured their win with two insurance runs in the top frame of the seventh. With one out, Perry Central’s Hillman walked after watching four straight balls cross the plate. Meeler singled on a ground ball to shortstop Gartman. Derrick Hartfield was intentionally walked, loading up the bases. Backstrom scored the game’s final runs on his line drive single to right fielder Wyatt Burns.
Fugler started on the mound for Enterprise going 4.2 innings, allowing six hits and eight runs while striking out 10 batters.
Gartman led Enterprise with two singles. Richardson also notched two singles. Feltus had a double and an RBI. Fugler hit a double. John Burns had a single and an RBI. Beard had a single. Wyatt Burns and Carter finished for the Yellow Jackets with an RBI each.
