Lady Wolves fall behind early, lose to Southwest, 5-1

The Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College fell behind 3-0 in the second inning in game one of a double header with Southwest Mississippi Community College, losing the contest 5-1.
The Lady Bears’ productive second inning was sparked by Southwest’s Jami Spears’ RBI single. Later in the inning, Miranda Magee drove in two with a single, giving the Lady Bears a 3-0 advantage.
Co-Lin scrapped back and got one run in the bottom of the fourth with a single from Alexsundria Thomas. The single scored Taylor Bryant, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.
Southwest pushed two more runs across in the top of sixth to secure the 5-1 victory.
Kassie Shipley was credited with the victory for Southwest. She lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out five and walking one.
Bailey Root took the loss for the Lady Wolves, as she lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits and five runs while striking out four.
Morgan Dubose, Callie Fortenberry, Thorton and Thomas each collected one hit to lead the Lady Wolves in the batter’s box.
Southwest racked up nine hits in the game. Ashley Elsensohn and Tia Bussey each had multiple hits for the Lady Bears, while Elsensohn led Southwest with three hits in three at-bats.
The loss moved the Lady Wolves to 3-5 on the year.
