Boy Scout Ryan Amic, of Brookhaven, is conducting a shoe drive that began on April 1 and continues through May 30, in order to earn his Eagle Scout and to raise funds for The Ronald McDonald House in Jackson. The Ronald McDonald House will earn funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated footwear. This money will benefit kids and families that will stay at The Ronald McDonald House.
Anyone can donate gently worn used or new shoes by contacting Rebecca Amic at 601-748-2751.
All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in Haiti, Honduras and other countries in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the sale of the shoes will be used to clothe, feed and house families.
“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said Theresa Watts, Troop 450 Scout Master. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient.”
“It’s a win-win for everyone,” Rebecca Amic added.
Ryan’s goal is to reach 2,500 pairs of shoes.
