BHS powerlifting wins Region 3-5A

The Ole Brook powerlifting team won the Region 3-5A district championship Saturday for the first time in school history.
Winning the district wasn’t the only big accomplishment for the Panthers Saturday as it was also the first time beating Ridgeland in school history as well.
It’s a huge accomplishment for Ole Brook as they’ll continue their hot streak and face Gautier on March 9 at 4 p.m.
“I was really proud of the guys in winning the region for the first time,” Ole brook head coach Russ Britt said. “I’m also happy that we got 10 to 12 lifters to advance to South State. Nine was our previous best and the other two guys narrowly missed out by placing fourth.”
First place finishes for Ole Brook included Kenneth Bellamy at the 148-weight class at 1,020 total pounds; Kenneth Dixon at the 180-pound weight class at 1,185 total pounds; Ben Springfield at the 275-weight class at a total best 1,300 total pounds and 555 total pounds for squatting; Trace Clopton at the 300-weight class with a personal best 1,400 total pounds; and Jeffrey Johnson at the 310+ weight class at 1,480 total pounds.
Second place finishes include Jariq Motley at 165-weight class with 765 total pounds, Kiernan Williams at the 240-weight class with 1,205 total pounds and Dahauntre Hill at the 310-plus weight class with a personal best 1,280 total pounds, 500 total pounds on squats and another personal best 280 pounds bench pressing.
Third place finishes included Johnathon Smith at the 150-weight class a personal best 855 total pounds and another personal best 385 pounds on deadlift. Jevonta Smith also finished third in the 115-weight class with a personal best 500 total pounds and a deadlift of 215 pounds.
Fourth place finishes included Chandler Moore in the 220-weight class with 855 total pounds; and Cassidy Durr in the 240-weight class with a personal best 1,080 total pounds.
