The Wesson Cobras traveled south on Hwy. 51 to face the Bogue Chitto Bobcats Friday night and came out on top with a final score of 39-20.

“Always glad to get a win,” Cobras’ head coach Jeremy Loy said.  “We are still growing as a team and have to clean up some things. It was good to get a lot of young guys some experience tonight though.  We have a lot of work to do to get ready for Seminary next week.”

The Cobras started the night strong on their first possession by moving the ball down the field with five first downs by rushers Jerry Barlow, Jermaine James and Jaquarious Harris. Peyton Burns capped the drive with a sneak into the end zone, and kicker Fidel Mellado made the extra point to put the first points on the scoreboard.
The Bobcats fought back with four first downs, but fell short due to crucial tackles by Gunar Brister and Kahlil Byther, and turned the ball over on fourth down at the Cobras’ 40-yard line. Wesson  surrendered possession to the Bobcats with a fumble, but Wesson’s Trey Glasper and Chamar Martin sacked the quarterback in the backfield.

Wesson’s defense wreaked havoc on the Bobcats’ passing game and took back over on their own 29-yard line.  Wesson moved back into Bobcat territory with several rushes by Dell Thigpen and Damien Smith.

Thigpen broke free around the 38-yard line and reached the end zone to notch another touchdown for the Cobras and give his team a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Wesson dominated again in the second quarter, with rushers James and Thigpen carrying the ball down the field. Wesson ended up on the one-yard line again and Burns sneaked into the end zone for his second touchdown of the night.

Wesson recovered a fumble to gain  possession again, but the Bobcats responded with an interception by Bryce Langley.  The teams continued to battle until Bogue Chitto’s Dee Dillon rushed about 60 yards to register the first touchdown of the night for the Bobcats.

The Cobras came back with Victavion Edwards returning the ball to Bogue Chitto’s 49-yard line.  A few plays later,  Jaquavion Harris scored from about the 26-yard line widening Wesson’s lead to 33-6 going into halftime.

The Bobcats started the third quarter receiving and worked their way down the field with rushes by Chris Taylor and Demarcus Godbolt, but the drive stalled when a pass was intercepted by Cobra Seth Bailey to put the Cobras in control. However, the Cobras fumbled and put the Bobcats on their own 40-yard line.

Bobcat LeFredrick Dillon ran in a touchdown for Bogue Chitto, adding six points and bringing the score to 33-12 at the end of the third quarter.
After moving the ball down the field with significant rushes by Jim Guess and Smith, Wesson scored a touchdown with 7:05 on the clock on a completed pass to Will Hulon.

The Bobcats clawed back with rushes by Chris Taylor and Donovan Wallace and a complete pass to Zack Upkins. Lincoln Collins made it to the end zone and the two-point conversion was successful to end the game with a final score of 39-20 in favor of the Cobras.
