A Hazlehurst man was arrested Wednesday on three counts of house burglary in connection with the break-ins earlier this week on New Sight Drive and Lott Smith Road, Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said.
Emanuel Williams, 29, was apprehended in Brookhaven where he’s been living, Rushing said.
Williams’ arrest came after the public responded to the sheriff’s office’s call for help on its Facebook page.
Witnesses called in with descriptions of the vehicle they’d seen in the neighborhood, which led investigators to Williams, Rushing said.
Williams was also charged with one count of auto burglary after a woman who lives on New Sight Road reported she’d seen Williams going through her car, though nothing was taken, he said.
Deputies responded to three burglary calls Wednesday between 11:25 a.m. and 12:44 p.m. At a Lott Smith Road home, deputies found a glass door broken. The owner said someone had gone through belongings but nothing appeared to be missing.
On New Sight Road, a homeowner reported that a man walked into her kitchen from a side door while she was home. When he realized someone was home, he left in a small, dark car.
Shortly after that, a homeowner on Lott Smith Road found a rear door broken at his home and three guns taken.
Rushing said the homes were all within a few miles of each other.
