Beauties help raise money for local schools

Eighty-two girls between the ages of 1 and 20 graced the stage at the 74th annual Lions Club Beauty Pageant, one of the state’s longest running pageants, Saturday.

Vanessa Eloise Reed was named Queen of the Lions Club Beauty Pageant at the end of the night. Other winners in that category included second place winner Skila Cabrera and third place winner Kelsie Marie McCullough.

Bill Hickson served as the master of ceremonies for the pageant, which began at 2 p.m. with the youngest category.

Originally known as the Lions Water Carnival when it began in 1943, the annual pageant has been a Brookhaven tradition for more than seven decades and is the club’s primary fundraising event. The funds raised help the club provide vision checks for local school children, as well as other club projects.

Age 1 category winners included first place winner Ella Smith, second place winner Ava Kate Lofton and third place winner Addison Claire Teekel.

Age 2 category winners included first place winner Finley Caroline Holcomb, second place winner Presley Elizabeth Forehand and third place winner Bentlee Claire Nations.

Age 3 and 4 category winners included first place winner Avery Anna Miles, second place winner Laney Kate Wallace and third place winner Brooklynn Anne Smith.

Age 5 and 6 category winners included first place Ryleigh Williams, second place winner Emmalyn Smith and third place Annmarie Taylor Shaw.

Age 7 and 8 category winners were first place winner Laurin Isabella Reed, second place winner Layla Kate Burt and third place winner Isabella Grace Newsome.

Age 9 and 10 category winners included first place winner Allie Jane Miles, second place winner Maggie Wilson and third place winner Riley Carol Thornton.

Age 11 and 12 category winners included first place winner Madeline Grace King, second place winner Alli Claire Ferguson and third place winner Baylee Claire Zumbro.

Age 13 to 16 category winners included first place winner first place winner Madalyn Nicole Oglesby, second place winner Mallory Claire Leggett and third place winner Madisyn Raine King.
