The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougar soccer team will host the BA Kickoff Classic Saturday. The eight team soccer tournament will be held at the Hansel King sports complex. The tournament is an all day event utilizing two soccer fields from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Teams that make up the field are Mississippi Association of Independent Schoolteams from Mississippi and Louisiana.
The Lady Cougars will be led this season by senior co-captains Harley Smith, Sophie Wilson and six other seniors, Anna Morgan Smith, Julianna Mills, McKinley Evans, Shelby Flumm, Abby Oliver and Anna Narang.
Brookhaven Academy head coach Mark LeBlanc said he and his team are looking forward to taking the pitch for the tournament.
“The girls have put in a lot of hard work this summer at practice and are ready to play this weekend,” LeBlanc said.
“We have all of our returning starters from last year. I think we are going to surprise some teams.”
LeBlanc said he hopes that the classic will become a more regular event in the future.
“We are looking to make this tournament an annual event to showcase some of the regional soccer talent within our private school association,” he said. “We actually had to turn down some teams that were interested in playing because of our format and the amount of time we had to get the games finished.”
General admission tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for students. There will be full concessions available.
