You asked: No epidemic of stolen tags

Q: There are a lot of stolen tags listed in the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reports. Is there reason to worry?

A: According to Sheriff Steve Rushing, almost all of the lost or stolen tag reports are of the lost variety. As required by law, residents who lose their tag must file a report with the Sheriff’s office before they can be issued a new tag.

“If you lose your decal or tag for anything you have to have a tag form from the tax collector’s office, you have to do a report with the sheriff’s office to get a new one issued to you,” Rushing said. “And that’s city or county.”

“I would say less than 2 percent of those are actually stolen.”

Rushing said about half of his reports come from lost trailer tags.
