The Jeff Wilson Tri-State Rodeo, part of the annual Mississippi Spring Fest and Fair, kicks off tonight at the Lincoln Civic Center.
“This is a full scale rodeo,” Lincoln Civic Center Director Jordan Quinn said. “Just like you would see at the Dixie National or anywhere else just at a smaller venue. We have all the horse riding, bull riding, barrel racing and team roping just like you would at any full scale rodeo.”
The Tri-State Rodeo covers Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The rodeo in Lincoln County will have about 175 participants, including some locals like Dane Brister.
“Dane just qualified in Las Vegas in the finals last year in a different organization,” Jordan said. “I look forward to have him back home roping.”
The rodeo will also feature a performance by the trick-riding group, the Trixie Chicks. The rodeo begins at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 10 years old. Children under 4 get in free. Tickets can be bought at the gate.
Following tonight’s rodeo will be a concert by Jeff Nunnery. Jaryd Lane and the Parish will perform after Saturday’s rodeo. The concerts begin at 9 p.m. both nights.
Day at the Farm and Touch a Truck
Saturday is Day at the Farm at the fair, an event that gives children a chance to experience farm life first-hand.
“It’s one of the coolest things we do outside the rodeo,” Jordan said. “We have mutton busting and stick horse barrels. (There will be) educational stations where they can view animals and learn about agriculture on Saturday.”
Children will also get a chance to look inside tractors, ambulances and fire trucks Saturday. Also at the Touch a Truck event will be the LifeFlight 4 medical helicopter. The Reed’s Metals race car will be at the fair every night.
Day at the Farm and Touch a Truck last from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Mississippi Spring Fest and Fair is located at the Lincoln County Civic Center on 1996 Industrial Park Road NE.
