Funeral services for Doris Louise Byrd of Wesson are Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Riverwood with burial in Wesson Cemetery. Rev. Tom Atkins will officiate. Riverwood Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, from 12 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Byrd, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, in her residence surrounded by family. She was born in Vicksburg to James Calvin and Ida Ashley.

Born in Vicksburg, she was reared in Wesson and lived in New Orleans, Louisiana, for over 45 years.  Lou was married to M.T. Byrd, her husband of 65 years.  She was a senior underwriter for INA Insurance prior to retirement.

Lou was a faithful member of the Methodist church serving in several capacities throughout her years. She became a member of Brookhaven First United Methodist Church in June 2009 where she was a regular member.

Lou was an active member of the Eastern Star, William Oliver Chapter 176 for 63 years, serving as Worthy Matron among several other offices.  At the time of her death, she was serving as secretary of the chapter.

Preceding her in death were her parents, James Calvin and Ida Ashley; her brothers, James, Ed, Donald and Billy; her sister, Dot; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Walley.

She is survived by her husband, M.T. Byrd; her son, Michael Byrd; her daughter, Debra Reineke; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Brookhaven First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
