Wesson clobbers Hazlehurst

HAZLEHURST- The Wesson Lady Cobras traveled north on Hwy. 51 to capture a big Region 7-3A win over the Hazlehurst Lady Indians Tuesday in slowpitch softball action.

The Lady Cobras came out and quickly took care of business Tuesday night as they clobbered the Lady Indians in a five-inning contest. Wesson exploded in the second inning and scored several runs to take a commanding lead.
Riley Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cobras with four strikeouts and one walk.
Brooke Jones was the Lady Cobras’ big hitter with a grand slam, in the park home run and two singles. Cheyenne Gladden added fuel to the flames with three singles. Harmoni Ashley provided a home run and a single. Shelbi Maxwell ripped a triple and a single and Katie Westbrook had two singles.
The Lady Cobras’ defense held the Lady Indians to one run with Harmoni Ashley leading the way with five outs and one assist at first base.
For the Lady Indians, Carla Smith made it to home plate for the only run of the game for Hazlehurst.
Asia Madison suffered the loss on the mound for the Lady Indians with one strikeout and one walk.
Dasia Thigpen was the top hitter for the Lady Indians with two singles. Mariah Reed and Daisy Samson hit a single each.
