The father of a man charged with murder was arrested Wednesday for intimidating a witness.
Fred Hill Jr., 108 West Highland Drive, Brookhaven, was arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office around 4 p.m. Wednesday, LCSO Chief Deputy Johnny Hall Jr. confirmed.
His son, Fred Hill III, 24, of 1515 Spur Lane, was charged in the shooting death of Timothy Green, 31, earlier this year.
Fred Hill Jr. was released later Wednesday for health reasons, Hall said, but he is unable to provide information about the circumstances surrounding his arrest at this time. Hall did say that no one was hurt in the incident that led to the arrest.
Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said the April 2 fatal shooting likely stemmed from a dispute between Fred Hill III and Green. Green was found dead at the scene on Spur Lane when the sheriff’s department and ambulance arrived. Fred Hill III is charged with murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Fred Hill III’s case waits for grand jury
During a court hearing June 29 presided over by Circuit Court Judge David Strong, Hill’s council approached with a motion to reduce his bond to an amount that could be paid by the family.
The state recommended to Strong that Hill was a danger to the community and if the bond was reduced to make it a cash bond.
He granted a bond reduction to $500,000 with conditions. If bond was met for Hill he would have to live in the city of Brookhaven with his family, he could not travel within a one-mile radius of where the crime was committed and he would have no contact with the victim’s family or anyone associated with the case.
Fred Hill III’s case has not yet been sent to grand jury. He remains in Lincoln County Jail.
