A Sunday morning wreck involving two vehicles on Union Road killed one passenger and sent six others to the hospital.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department received the call at approximately 9:45 a.m., Sheriff Steve Rushing said. Vickie Cunningham, 56, of 1278 Smith Lake Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, Coroner Clay McMorris confirmed Monday.
Cunningham was riding in the rear driver’s side of a 2005 Kia Sorento, with a 16-year-old female driving and a 14-year-old passenger, when they collided with another SUV, according to LCSD. The surviving two passengers were transported by King’s Daughters Medical Center to University of Mississippi Medical Center with injuries; at the time of the transport, no injuries were life-threatening.
The second vehicle was a 2013 Toyota 4-Runner carrying driver Kacey Hutcherson, 34, and her three children, 12, 9 and 1 years old. The four were transported from KDMC to UMMC and at the time of the transport none of the various injuries were life-threatening.
The two SUVs collided on the driver’s side though it was not a direct, head-on collision. The cause of the accident is unknown, Rushing said Monday, and the LCSD is still investigating any possible causes.
