Funeral services for Millard E. Smith are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Brookhaven with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. Greg Warnock will be officiating the service.  Pallbearers are Jon David Smith, Pete Moak, Jason Smith, James Millard Smith, David Summers and Steve Yawn. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Cecil Rhodes Sunday school class and the Greatest Generation Breakfast Club. Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Brookhaven on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Mr. Smith, 93, of Brookhaven, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Zetus to E. Leon and Rebecca Watts Smith.

He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was the retired owner of Sunflower Grocery Stores in Brookhaven and a retired distributor for Saladmaster Cookware. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Brookhaven for 69 years and served as church administrator for 15 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, A. Clinton Smith and James Smith; and sisters, Ollie Smith Redd, Evie Smith Allen and Jessie Lee Smith.

Survivors are his wife of 69 years, Winnie Smith; sons, Dr. Millard Bedford Smith and wife, Sarah, of Beaufort, North Carolina, and Edward D. “Dee Dee” Smith and wife, Donna, of Brookhaven; grandchildren, Dienna Moak and husband, Pete, Heather Smith and husband, Jason, and Meagan Smith Turpin; great-grandchildren, McKenzi, Anna Katelyn, Will, Anderson, Maley, Jacob, Morgan, Jonah, Walker, Jackson and Marshall; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the staff of Hospice Advantage and to his loving caregivers.
