Copiah Lincoln Community College has plans to move forward with erecting a new president’s home.
During the Co-Lin Board of Trustees meeting Aug. 6, board member Melton King of Adams County described the current state of the president’s home as outdated and in need of replacing. The buildings and grounds committee, King said, has determined there is no better location than where the current president’s home stands and the new home should replace it.
“The idea of the committee is that we need a president’s home that is keeping with what we feel like a president’s home should look like,” King said.
King said a follow-up meeting is scheduled for Aug. 18 when the cost of the project will become more definite. The board approved Carl Douglas as the architect, as Douglas has worked with Co-Lin on many previous projects.
King said the project will cost somewhere around $400,000, but the cost is still to be determined.
The Co-Lin Foundation has expressed interest in financially supporting a large portion of the cost of the rebuild. King also said the remainder would be financed within the college.
The board moved to replace the president’s home on its present location and allow Douglas as architect to continue the development of pricing and the total finance package for the project.
Though early in the design stages, the board said the home would be roughly the same size as the current one, about 3,500 square feet, and the building would have an open floor plan.
