Supervisor: ‘Deception’ in planning of baseball complex

The groundbreaking for the final phase of construction on the new baseball complex is soon approaching, though one member of the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors has taken issue with the project.
The board’s regular meeting Monday morning began with an executive session proposed by District 1 Supervisor Jerry Wilson for personnel reasons. Wilson left the meeting early and angrily at the conclusion of the executive session, citing “deception” going on in the planning of the complex. Wilson expressed that he had proposed a program related to the complex that apparently the board did not fully support.
The rest of the board declined to make a comment on what angered Wilson, with some saying they wanted to give him a chance to cool down after what might have been a disproportionate response.
County Engineer Ryan Holmes said Greenbriar Construction will have completed phase one about six weeks early, and the groundbreaking for the final phase will be Aug. 14 at 9 a.m.
May Harper, treasurer at Union Hall Baptist Church approached the board seeking possible solid waste payment reimbursements. Harper said the church has been paying solid waste, not realizing it was unnecessary as no one has lived there for probably five or six years. The board determined that County Attorney Bob Allen would look into what the board could legally refund, and that would be reimbursed to the church.
“Whatever we can do we’ll do it,” said Supervisor District 3 Nolan Williamson.
In other business the board approved Justice Court Clerk Sharon Loften to attend an annual convention Sept. 9 and 10.
