School district asks for millage decrease

The Lincoln County School Board of Trustees on Monday approved an ad valorem resolution that calls for a decrease in the millage rate.
Lincoln County School District Business Manager Cheryl Shelby said that although the district is requesting about $13,000 more than last year because of some new property, the preliminary numbers suggest that they will return a little over 1 mill to the county.
“Whether the taxpayers will see that, I don’t know,” she said.
The board approved a $28.8 million budget at the end of June. Local revenues make up about 16 percent of the district’s projected income for the 2015-2016 school year.
Superintendent Terry Brister told board members that he is concerned about the Enterprise cafeteria being ready on time.
“They see me out there every day, so the foremen know the time crunch,” he said.
Brister said from Thursday to Monday a lot of progress was made. He said if that same amount of progress is made before school starts on Aug. 10, the cafeteria should be ready to go. Brister said in a worst-case scenario, the district can provide bagged lunches for up to two weeks.
Other board business included:
• Approval to use $900 from the activity fund for gate box cash at Loyd Star.
• Approval to use activity funds at Loyd Star to purchase/rent items for activities such as graduation, homecoming and Awards Day.
• Approval to allow Loyd Star pee-wee programs to conduct activities on campus facilities for games, camps and homecoming.
• Approval to cut a check in the amount of $800 for gate box change at Enterprise.
• Approval for Enterprise to use activity funds to purchase or rent items associated with student functions and activities.
